With the
origin small hamlet of fischermen, Peyriac
de Mer knew how to preserve and emphasize its
very old past. For the amateurs of prehistory,
a visit of the archaeological museum is essential
for its protohistoric and Gallo-Roman collections coming
from the Oppidum of the Mill.
The old village still presents streets of the Middle
Ages with their low-reliefs. Lastly, Saint-Paul,
fortified church of the XIVth century, is the only
Gothic church of the canton which is not a ruin;
it is classified a historic building.
In the west of the village, the first buttresses
of Corbières, the important pine forests,
form a curious contrast with the Lagoon-Zone.
Le Doul is a salted lake, surrounded by hills of
typical Mediterranean vegetation, decorated by
a small beach.
Not far, the pond of Bages-Sigean and its islands
offer a permanent natural spectacle, in particular
its colonies of migratory birds. A small prepared
port allows all possibilities of nautical leisures. |
